Cost of Editing

Your writing is unique. How long an edit takes depends on an evaluation of the type of editing your writing needs and if it requires a light, medium or heavy edit. You can get a free evaluation and total cost estimate by emailing me a 3-5 page sample of your work. Pricing is based on Editors Canada rate guidelines.

The prices below based on average word count and page lengths. They are listed here with the intention of giving you a rough idea of the cost for your project based on your own estimated needs.

Manuscript Appraisals/Evaluations

You are paying to have your manuscript read, critiqued, and given detailed suggestions about pacing, narrative, plot, characterization, dialogue, presentation, and marketability of your book.

This can be the most cost-efficient place for you to start. There are two kinds of manuscript appraisals:

Overview Appraisal  $800-1000+tax*

This appraisal is typically 6-10 pages in length will give you general suggestions to strengthen big picture ideas in your manuscript.

Detailed Appraisal  $1500-1800+tax*

This appraisal is 20+ pages. It includes suggestions to strengthen both big picture ideas and chapter by chapter details to use as inspiration for your book.

Copy & Stylistic Editing

Copy Editing Your Manuscript  $1,100-1900 + tax*

You are paying to have your text edited for grammar, spelling, punctuation errors, and fact-checking content.

*Cost estimate based on a typical standard copy edit of a 150-page manuscript @ 250 words per page.

Stylistic Edit of Your Manuscript $2,500-3,700 + tax*

You're paying to have your manuscript line edited and polished to improve clarity, flow and language. This is a more time-intensive process.

Cost of Writing Online Content

Writing cost depends on the type, length, time, and research needed. I use rates suggested by the Professional Writers Association of Canada (PWAC) to calculate cost based on the type of non-fiction writing required for your online content.

Cost includes the time it takes for me to research, write, and edit a piece of online content for you at your direction. This could include blog posts, newsletters, emails, content for your author website, or book blurbs.

Research $40 per hour + tax*

You are paying me to search for information on a theme of your choice. Through our collaboration, you will share with me your topic and goals, and I will research the information for your writing piece.

Cost for research is calculated based on an hourly rate. 

Writing $100-250 + tax

You are paying me to write a piece of online content for you. I will get you to fill out a set of questions and I will use these as a guide to write the text for you.
